Todd Welliver Dies in Big Rig Accident

[Mesa, CA] – Todd Welliver Dies, Others Injured in Big-Rig Collision on Isleta Avenue

Todd Welliver Killed, Semi-truck Crashed into Residence on Isleta Avenue

January 12, 2021 – Todd Welliver, age 50, was killed on New Year’s Eve at around 7:00 P.M. Moreover, others were hurt as well when a semi-truck crashed into a home on Isleta Avenue.

Initially, the deadly accident happened when a truck exiting U.S. 60 traveling east failed to stop at Crismon Road. As a result, it drove directly into Mr. Welliver’s house.

Allegedly, there were up to 10 people inside the house at the time of the incident.

Sadly, Mr. Welliver did not survive the accident.

Notably, nobody else in the house was seriously injured.

Incidentally, the driver of the truck suffered minor injuries and ended up going to the hospital.

Additionally, the Police Department’s initial investigation considers that the driver may have been suffering from a medical emergency right before the accident happened.

Several factors can play a role in accidents, including but not limited to impairment, reckless driving, distracted driving, road conditions and speeding. Here we have supplied three tips to help keep you from having an accident.

3 Easy Tips for Accident Prevention

Recent research shows that drivers often do not come to a full stop at stop signs.

This irresponsible and lazy type of driving behavior could lead to dangerous consequences. Furthermore, intersections are where many crashes occur.

By following three simple tips, drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists can all stay a little safer.

  • Come to a complete stop at the painted stop line or before the crosswalk. Moreover, if there are no sidewalk markings, stop just before the stop sign.
  •  Look for any possible risks before entering the intersection by looking left, right, straight ahead and then left again.
  • If another vehicle is stopped ahead of you at the stop sign:
  • Stop where you can still see the tires of the vehicle ahead of you.
  • When the vehicle ahead of you begins to move, count two seconds before you continue to the stop sign.

What is the Best Way to Avoid a Car Accident?

Mostly, we think of driving as so common that we do not realize the inherent risks behind the wheel. However, when you are not traveling at interstate speeds, responding to, and stopping in case of a road hazard can happen in a matter of moments.

All drivers end up facing split-second decisions to respond to potential hazards. Furthermore, to avoid a car crash, what should you do: brake or swerve?

It is not always easy to figure out in the moment what actions to take. Specifically, if there’s not enough time for you to react.

Here I will consider two types of car accident scenarios you are likely to encounter while avoiding a reckless driver and avoiding debris.

What is your next move: brake or swerve?

When You Swerve to Avoid an Accident

First, your instincts kick in and your first thought may be to swerve to the right and sway off the road. It may seem that normally this would be a practical choice.

Logically, it would protect you and your passenger from a collision. However, in this scenario, you misjudge the distance. As a result, you swerve off the road directly into a telephone pole instead.

The name for this type of accident is called a “no-contact” accident. Also, the driver who caused you to crash is called a “phantom driver.”

Since the other vehicle driver did not directly hit you, it is much harder to prove who is at fault.

Usually, your insurance company will treat a “no-contact” accident as if the “phantom driver” had no insurance. Notably, because deciphering the other party’s fault is much more difficult.

Subsequently, you will have to pay through your own policy underinsured / uninsured coverage.

When You Brake to Avoid an Accident

Pretend that you brake instead of swerve. However, you do not do it soon enough.

As a result, you suffer a rear-end accident. Also, these can occur when you do not have enough room to stop.

Let us say that you are the one who rear-end another car. Then, you are always at fault.

It is extremely challenging to prove that the other driver was more at fault than you. Luckily, the same goes if somebody rear-ends you.

In this synopsis, the driver who pulled out was more at fault. However, you would need a witness to help support your claim.
