There is a wealth of factors to keep in mind before getting onto a motorcycle and going for a ride. While it may seem daunting, remembering all these safety tips could save your life when it comes right down to it.

Despite your experience on a motorcycle, you should always practice safety and responsibility when riding on a motorcycle. Here are 5 tips designed to help you stay safe on the road!

5 Safety Tips to Avoid a Motorcycle Accident

1) Resist the Temptation to Share Lanes

It is important for your safety and survival to treat your motorcycle the same way that you would treat a car. Also, you do not ever see two full-sized cars driving in the same lane on the interstate or in a residential area.

Furthermore, it is a dangerous maneuver that could cost not only your life, bus those around you as well.

2) Upkeep the Maintenance of Your Motorcycle

Motorcycle upkeep and repair on your motorcycle is just as important as car maintenance and should be taken very seriously.

Likewise, make sure you have everything you need, and do a safety check before you hit the road. Furthermore, safety checks can include ensuring that your horn, turn signals, and other lights are all working correctly.

Stop, and take a moment to also check the chain, belt, brakes, and the tires.

Finally, if there is a need for repair, then contact a motorcycle mechanic. Do not ride the bike until it is repaired if any of these components are not working.

3) Work on Your Riding Skills

The press manager, John Seidel of Honda Motorcycle’s, has been quoted stressing the importance of keeping your riding skills in shape.

He stated that, “There is nothing we could say or advice more than to go find a Motorcycle Safety Foundation riding course in your area. That is critical, absolutely critical.”

You could learn the basics from a Motorcycle Safety Foundation sponsored class, as well as some advanced techniques.

Furthermore, some of these techniques include how to use evasive maneuvers to get out of an emergency. Click here for a list of classes in your local area.

4) Use the Correct Gear

Other than the obvious helmet, it is important to wear the correct riding gear. Also, this applies to whenever you are going to get on your motorcycle.

Moreover, wearing casual clothing such as baggy jeans, sandals, or even loose t-shirts can make you more likely to get in an accident than if you wear correct riding gear.

Not to mention, there are plenty of things to think about when it comes to the protective gear that you need. A few things to look for is gear that will help protect you against certain conditions.

These conditions could include bugs and other debris on the road, the wind and other weather, or even road rash should you get into an accident.

Fortunately, there are specially designed pieces of clothing. Such as, pants, shirts, eye wear, and shoes, meant for motorcycle riders available in motorcycle retail stores and online.

5) Beware of Bad Weather

One thing that every rider knows, is that wet, slick roads are not our friends. For starters, a motorcycle’s two tires have much less traction on wet pavement than they do on dry.

Furthermore, rain or snow can considerably affect a motorcycle rider’s vision. Moreover, the proper gear will help you navigate through those stormy and treacherous conditions.
