Pay Attention To Your Surroundings

Both bicyclists, as well as drivers, should pay close attention to those around them.

Likewise, they should always try to keep a considerable distance from one another.

Subsequently, this a good precaution at any time that harms is near. Especially when lives are at stake.

Ways to Avoid Fatal Crashes when Biking

Riding bicycles has become increasingly more popular over the past few years. Furthermore, biking can give the heart and lungs a workout that is known to reduce the risk of heart disease.

Not only does it trim and tone a person’s muscles; This environmentally safe activity can help you to manage weight and relieve stress as well.

The Centers for Disease Control 500,000 people (about half the population of Montana) are treated in emergency rooms due to Bicycle accidents.

Additionally, a shocking 7-800 people are killed each year. Hopefully, the following tips and advice will help you ride your bicycle a little safer.

Always Look Both Ways Before Crossing the Street

Look left, then right, then look left again, for cars coming from the left are on your side, and so closer to you.

Use Your Turn Signals and Check Behind You.

If you require practice for this activity, then go to a quiet area with little to no traffic.

Always Wear A Helmet.

This one item could mean the difference between life and death. Out of the 7-800 people who die from bicycle crashes every year, most of them are from head injuries.

Not to mention, many others suffer from permanent brain damage because they did not wear a helmet.

A good practice is to check your helmet from time to time for wear and tear. Also, replace it every 6 years, or if you have been in an accident.

Obey Traffic Rules.

Stay in the correct lanes, and make sure to follow all traffic signage. Likewise, always come to a full stop at the stop signs and red lights, even if the ‘coast is clear’.

Keep an Eye Out for Left Turning Traffic.

Time and again, oncoming traffic will incorrectly judge the speed of a cyclist and turn left right into them.

Remain conscious of oncoming traffic. To add to that, make sure to look for signs that a vehicle will be turning left.

Also, Watch for Right Turning Traffic.

Stay alert and be ready to apply your breaks if a car passes you then slows down. Because this can be taken as a sign that they are about to turn right into your path.

This could also be a sign that they are yielding to a car headed toward them that is turning left. Fundamentally, always be cautious when passing a vehicle that just passed you.

Use a Bike Headlight for Night Biking.

Do not assume that the motorist can see you. Furthermore, make sure that you are seen.

Make Sure Your Bike Has Reflectors.

Safety First!!! Make sure that you are using bright and reflective clothing at night too.

Be aware that some drivers have astigmatism. So, whatever you can do to make sure you are seen, do it.

Do Not Ride When You Are Sleepy.

Get off your bike and walk if you are sleepy. Even in very windy weather, as you may wobble and be in danger of crashing.

Shoes Make A Difference.

It is not recommended to ride a bike in sandals or barefoot. Additionally, you should wear comfortable shoes or invest in special biking shoes.

To the family and friends of Hannah Tran, we cannot begin to imagine what you are going through, and our sincerest condolences go out to you.
