[Sacramento, CA] – David Free Killed in Motorcycle Accident on West Elverta Road 

Motorcyclist David Free Dies, One Other Injured in Crash on West Elverta Road 

November 29, 2020 – David Free, age 68, lost his life on Wednesday afternoon around 3:15 P.M. Moreover, the man from Roseville died in a motorcycle crash on West Elverta Road. 
  
First, Mr. Free was riding his Harley Davidson Street Glide. Then, his motorcycle was hit by a motorist near the Sacramento International Airport. 

The vehicle that crashed into the motorcycle was a Hyundai Sonata. Also, the Sonata was driven by a 41-year-old Woodland man. 

As a result of the collision, a 64-year-old woman riding a Yamaha Sportster Motorcycle was also struck and injured.

Fortunately, rescue workers took the Yamaha rider to a nearby hospital after the crash. 
  
However, officials pronounced the Harley Davidson rider, Mr. Free, dead upon arrival. 
  
Likewise, investigators will continue to gather information about the deadly accident.

The exact number of motorcycle deaths is unknown.  However, we do know that in the year 2018 alone, 4,985 people died. 

Moreover, that is 14% of all traffic fatalities.  Often, because of drugs or alcohol.  

Another example is, “Lane Splitting” by motorcycles.  Because it can be fatal if a car turns left. 

Furthermore, research shows that 4.24% of motorcycle accidents are usually fatal.   

Also, motorcyclists are 29 times more likely to suffer fatal injuries than car passengers. Not to mention, motorcycles make up over 3% of registered vehicles. 

Finally, you should always remember to wear your helmet.   

Recent studies have shown that helmet use can lower the risk of head injuries by up to 69%.  Also, it reduces the risk of death by 50%. 

Be Aware of Your Surroundings 

Statistically, one in every two motorcycle accidents involves another motor vehicle. 

As stated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2013, 51% of fatal motorcycle accidents involved another motor vehicle. Also, 47% of those accidents were front facing collisions. 

Not only that, another 22% of fatal motorcycle accidents that same year included fixed objects. Moreover, some examples of fixed objects are light poles or highway medians. 

Among the fatal motorcycle accident situations that involve another motor vehicle – 42% of them because of other vehicles turning left. Subsequently, this could cause a collision with the driver of the motorcycle.
