Prilosec Dangers

Prilosec or Omeprazole is commonly prescribed for acid reflux and heart burn. Prilosec is manufactured by AstraZeneca and is a proton pump inhibitor that is suppose to relieve the effects of gastroesophageal pain. Consumers have been taking the product for years, but recently some profound side effects have been reported to the FDA. Currently there is a Prilosec Recall that is making more and more users of this drug aware of the potential side effects.

Some of the minor side effects include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Gas
  • Headache
  • Nausea, stomach pain, vomiting
  • More serious side effect include:
  • Itching, rash hives
  • Difficulty breathing and swelling of the mouth, face or tongue
  • Chest pain or irregular heartbeat
  • Changes in vision or yellowing of the eyes
  • Long term side effects include:
  • Increased risk for fractures due to a loss in bone density and bone deterioration

As reported in August 2011, Pubic Citizen, which is a prominent consumer watchdog group, has filed a petition with the FDA asking for a stronger warning against this type of drug and making the medical community aware of the dangerous side effects and long term risks of Prilosec. People who have used the drug and are now experiencing problems need to speak with an attorney to become part of the Prilosec Class Action Lawsuit.

Contacting an attorney about the Prilosec lawsuit should be the first step you take if you have experienced severe side effects or disabling bone fractures after taking Prilosec medication. There are also lawsuits being filed by women who were prescribed Prilosec while pregnant. It is now known that taking this drug can cause miscarriage and harm the fetus.

If you, or someone you love has been affected by the drug Prilosec, you owe it to yourself to seek compensation. Although this drug has been prescribed for years, there have not been sufficient warning to make consumers aware of not only the minor side effects but also the long term affects that make life difficult for years. At least the FDA is beginning to make a move to correct the problem by calling for the Prilosec Recall. It won’t hurt to check in with a Prilosec Attorney to find out if you might be due compensation due to problems you have had with this drug.
